Advances in Web-Based Education: Personalized Learning Environments

Magoulas (computer science and information systems, U. of London, UK) and Chen (information systems and computing, Brunel U., UK) assemble 14 chapters by an international group of scholars and researchers who address the personalization of web-based education and new technology that adjusts to the individual learner, such as content, presentation, navigation support, and educational services. Sections center on modeling the learner, designing instruction, authoring and exploring content, and approaches to integration. Key considerations are gender, cognitive ability, dominant meanings of queries, learning styles, and feedback in LAOS, AHyCo, adaptive hypermedia, contextualized learning, TEXT-COL, SCORM, the MAID design method, and Tutor 3.
